This week our campers will learn all about money: earning, saving, and spending! We will play
games to explore financial concepts. We will explore the businesses in our community and
determine what need they address (providing goods and services) and how they make a profit.
We will study financial literacy concepts and apply them to everyday life. We will create our
own small businesses; role play and make smart economic choices. We will enjoy visitors from
our local businesses/bank. We will create business plans, market our business, use play money
and sell/shop for goods and services at our very own MCDBC Economic Fair!

Get ready to embark on the greatest adventure you will ever take – The Amazing Race of
MCDBC! Campers will be given a series of challenges based on different times in history:
Campers will work together to meet the physical challenges and decipher clues that will lead
them to an exciting prize! Campers will receive clues regarding the next steps in their
adventure. Teams will create team flags and travel back in time while participating in different
challenges. Campers will encounter detours and roadblocks as they overcome mental and
physical challenges. They will work together as a team to reach the Amazing Race Carpet with
their team. The world is waiting . . . GO!

Ahoy there! Seeking all Hands-on Deck as we set sail for Boat Week! This week we will explore
the many different types of boats there are and what makes them each unique. We will learn
about the science concepts behind sailing including buoyancy, lift and aerodynamics. Once we
have this information, we will design our own boats using a variety of recycled materials, items
found in nature and using concepts such as origami. Utilizing scientific trial and error we will
determine which boats float and how fast we can propel them in water. Once we have created
our own mini boats we will race in our own regatta! Anchors up!!!

Field Trip – The week will end with a trip to the C&O Canal National Historical Park in
Georgetown where the students will learn about the canal locks and the boats that used
the canal.

Ditch the digital world, take a break from swiping left/right. Instead, we will use our hands to
practice basic sewing skills and use simple tools. Our campers will be curious, inventive, and
creative while learning how to sew and how to hammer a nail. We will practice sewing a
button, weaving a placemat, sewing a bookmark, creating nail string art, making wood chimes,
wood sculptures and more! We will provide wood scraps, glue, nails, bottle caps, paint, along
with instruction/supervision and see what creative ideas they put into motion. Using our newly
learned hands-on skills, we will tinker with a wide variety of materials and make our own
unique creations – which we will display for all to see at the end of the week!

Provided with a variety of materials, campers will build different types of structures, including
towers, bridges, forts, sculptures, homes, castles and more! We will use building blocks, Legos,
moving boxes, cans, packing materials, cups, etc. Campers will be given daily challenges to see
what they can balance and build with them. Using trial and error, campers will learn the
concept of cause and effect. As they build, they will learn about the importance of weight,
balance and gravity. They will develop their spatial, language, cognitive and problem-solving
skills while building and balancing. Whatever good things we build will end up building us!

Field Trip – Our week will conclude with a trip to the National Children’s Museum where
our students will learn through interactive and engaging exhibits such as the Dream
Machine, Innovation Sandbox and others. They will have the opportunity to experiment
in the Tinkerer’s Studio to learn about balance, equilibrium and center of gravity of
objects.

Paris, France will host the Summer Olympics this year, where athletes from all over the world
will compete for the gold! This exciting tradition started in Ancient Greece and brings countries
together for friendly competition every four years. As the spotlight shines on Paris, we will
learn all about French culture, geography, customs, and celebrations. We will explore one of
the world’s leading business and cultural centers, focusing on entertainment, music, media,
fashion and the arts. We will bring the Olympic Spirit to life by playing sports featured in the
summer games, such as track & field, badminton, basketball, breaking, flag football and golf.
We will hold our own Olympic games ending with a colorful Closing Ceremony!

Calling All Superheroes!!! Superheroes act as role models as they teach qualities like bravery,
honesty, a sense of duty and leadership. Children learn a spirit of teamwork, strength,
selflessness, and empathy towards others when they observe superheroes – whether in
movies, books or every day in our own community. This week we will learn all about
superheroes, as we host several community helpers to share what they do and why they do it,
including firefighters, police officers, EMT, etc. We will see if our campers have what it takes to
be their own superhero, as we challenge them to an agility obstacle course, solve logic puzzles,
design their own costume, mask and shield and more! There is a hero in all of us . . . and this
week our mission is to find it!

Field Trip – Our week will conclude with an exciting trip to the local Fire Station.

Just us for a week of artistic experimentation with paint! We will explore the creative world of
color theory, patterns, and texture. We will mix, dip, splatter, roll, brush, dab and spread paint
over rough, smooth, wet and dry surfaces. We will use a variety of application techniques,
including sponges, string, utensils, found objects and brushes! We will study influential artists
in history and the processes they used in their artwork. In addition to individual pieces, we will
collaborate on a group piece of art with the help of all our young artists. Our week will
culminate with an art show where we will display our artwork for parents to enjoy.
